Live Poker Tournament Roommate Guide
The Three Roommates You Are Likely to Meet at a Live Poker Event
By Fabien Perrot
Knowing how to play the game of poker will get you into live tournaments, but who you stay with at these tournaments can have an impact on your game as well, reports Team Everest player Fabien Perrot.
Throughout 2010, Everest Poker sponsored player Fabien Perrot (screen name: Schumyfab) stayed in many different hotels, in many different countries, and with many different roommates. Things are much more enjoyable that way—and they are also much, much less expensive!
What he found during his travels were that each roommate had a distinct personality and behaved in very different ways. So, he thought, why not create a guide for other poker players who might travel to live Everest Poker events in 2011?
Fabien’s teammates don’t know it yet, but he did just that, and created a list of three roommate types you can expect to find at live poker events in 2010—and each personality is based on one of them!
Without further delay, Fabien Perrot presents the Three Roommates You Are Likely to Meet at a Live Poker Event…
Congratulations! You just won a ticket to a live event from Everest Poker! You are going to play a live event at the Spanish Poker Tour 2011!
But wait! The process is not so simple. Playing in a competitive poker tournament at one of Spain’s most beautiful destinations is actually the easy part. To get the most out of your experience at the Spanish Poker Tour, you are probably going to need a roommate!
Roommates are risky but necessary in the poker world. Hotel room can be expensive, but more importantly when you win the tournament, who will be there with your to hear about your good beats (and the bad beats too)? It will probably be the roommate: A friend along for the journey, perhaps, or a loved one there to cheer for you at the Final Table.
Whoever the roommate is will be very close to you for several days. What will they be like?
1. The Snoring Beast - Fabien likes to travel with teammate Valentin Messina. They are good friends and go on very well together. However, when it comes to sleep, Valentin is known to snore like a drilling machine! There is no way you could sleep in the same room! So don't forget to ask your friend whether he snores before taking him with you! Everest Advice: If you cannot avoid the snoring roommate, ear plugs work well, as do noise-cancelling headphones like the ones featured in the EVP Online Store.
2. The Party Man- Fabien also travels a lot with teammate Leo Truche. They are also good friends and enjoy each other’s company when they travel together to Las Vegas or Seville. However, Leo likes to party. And he likes it a lot! He likes to come back late at night or early in the morning and waking up his teammates when he is very happy! So if you want to rest a bit after a very long day playing poker, you need to keep in mind that your teammate might not want to rest at the same time and prevent you from sleeping well! Everest Advice: Have the Party Animal promise to sleep in the bathroom. He will probably need to be in there a lot that night anyway!
3. The Poker Geek - Fabien also stayed in hotels with German Teammate Tobias Wagner. Tobias does not snore, nor does he come back every night tipsy. No, what Tobias does day and night is what he does best: He plays online poker. He can play poker all night long, even after playing live the whole day. So don't be afraid if you hear "YES baby, your stack is mine!" at 4am in your room: it's your roommate playing online poker. Good luck!
Going to a live poker event with a roommate is a great idea and whoever you decide to bring with you, we are convinced that you will definitely have a lot of fun on your live event.
