Leo is out of the tournament

27.03.11 @ 13:11:27 von Martin

Unfortunately our last Team Everest Player in the field is out. Leo did not get any cards for more than 3 levels and all he could do is to steal the blinds from time to time. When the blinds were raised up to 2.5k/5k Leo pushed again from the cutoff with A9s and a stack of 45k. The small blind called with AJ and the board brought no help. It will not be Leo's last WPT and he will also play The Everest Poker ONE in Monte Carlo. We wish him all the best for the upcoming tournaments!

Leo got reseated on a very though table

27.03.11 @ 10:46:01 von Martin

Leo is struggling as he is kind of card dead ate the moment and every time he tries to steal the blinds he gets 3-bet. Now he got reseated on the same table where he started to play on Day1. Hopefully this is a good sign. We keep our fingers crossed. Leo's stack is 65k with blinds 1.200/2.400 and an ante of 400.

Peter busted but still admired...

26.03.11 @ 19:20:41 von Martin

Peter first lost almost half of his stack when he raised from the button with JTs playing against the guy in the small blind. On the flop J98 Peter made a c-bet and his opponent went all in which Peter called. His opponent showed a set of 9 and Peter lost 17k. Two orbits later he raised again from the button with A5s and the big blind called. Peter barreled on the flop and on the turn and finally went all-in on the river. Though there were three overcards his opponent called the final bet of 15k holding pocket six. Little comfort: At the sports bar of the Montesino two Hungarian waiters asked Peter for an autograph and a picture...

Peter doubled up and is back in the game

26.03.11 @ 17:42:48 von Martin

Peter grinded up to 24.000 chips and managed to double up some seconds ago. When a very aggressive player openraised to 1.5k Peter made a 3-bet from the button to 4k. His opponent shoved all in and Peter called with AQs. He was way ahead cause he was playing against A8. Peter not only hit the queen but also completed his flush on the turn. With about 50k he is back in the game. Blinds are 300/600 with a running ante of 50.

How to turn 18k chips into 447k Euro?

26.03.11 @ 16:00:13 von Martin

Just before the dinner break started Peter had pocket Jacks and openraised to 1k, his opponent who seems to be the chipleader of the tournament with more than 150k re-raised to 3.3k. Peter made a 4-bet to 9k but had to fold when his opponent announced all-in and is now down to 18k. Meanwhile the Montesino announced the payout structure and the winner of the WPT Vienna will get 447k Euro. A TV-crew from Hungary is following Peter and would love to see him holding the check at the price ceremony. We keep our fingers crossed...

Peter is waiting for the right spots to attack...

26.03.11 @ 13:17:43 von Martin

The fourth level of the WPT Vienna is running and Peter only played about 10 hands in total. He told us that he gained some bad experience with overplaying hands in the last couple of tournaments that´s why he decided to take a step back and wait for good spots. In one hand he just called the big blind with pocket Aces and was facing an isolation raise from the cutoff. Then the big blind made a big 3-bet and Peter wanted to trap the initial raiser so he just called. At the end the player in the cutoff folded and after a check of his opponent in the big blind on a J-high flop Peter could win the pot with a small bet. His current chip count equals the starting stack of 30k. On another table we found Thomas Kremser who also plays the WPT in his hometown Vienna. Thomas will be the tournament director of The Everest Poker ONE end of April in Monte Carlo.

Leo is up to 80k - 100 players remaining

25.03.11 @ 19:55:15 von Martin

Leo managed to build up his stack constantly and seems to have his table under control. He is now up to 80k with blinds 500-1000. A couple of minutes ago Leo raised from the button, the big blind made a 3-bet and Leo shoved all-in. After calling "the clock" the player in the big blind called and showed AK. Leo had the same hand so they had to split the pot. There is one more hour to go and Leo is almost through Day1. A lot of good players are already out: Besides Team Everest players Steven van Zadelhoff and Valentin Messina also Leo Margets, Sebastian Ruthenberg and Stefan Jedlicka were sent to the rails. A total of 100 players are remaining.

Update: Congratulations, Leo finished Day1 with 73.400 chips and has a bit more than the average stack. The chipleader is Stjepan Jokic with 219.000. Leo will have some time to visit the beautiful city of Vienna tomorrow and will come back on Sunday.

When you bust you need friends who cheer you up...

25.03.11 @ 17:02:37 von Martin

The dinner break just finished and Valentin took his seat to start his comeback with about 30 Big Blinds left. After a 3x-raise of his opponent Valentin called on the button holding 66. The initial raiser made a big c-bet on a J-high board with three hearts. Valentin decided to shove with his pocket and a flush draw. His opponent called with J-4 and neither the turn nor the river brought help. Valentin got kicked out of the tournament. A couple of minutes later the Everest staff was able to catch this picture with a very disappointed Valentin and last year's Live the Dream winner Fabien who seems to be gleeful. Good to know that they are good friends and are just making the best of it...

Leo and Valentin are riding the roller coaster

25.03.11 @ 14:02:39 von Martin

Leo managed to win another big pot with nut flush vs. flush and got value on three streets. But just before the break he had to give up a 20k pot: After a preflop 5-bet scenario his opponent made a c-bet on a Q-high flop, Leo raised holding pocket kings but finally gave up when his opponent went all in. After the great start from Valentin he lost a quite big pot when he down-called his opponent with middle pair facing top pair. Later on he also lost some chips with top pair when his opponent rivered two pair. Chipcounts Leo: 48k and Valentin: 23k.

Steven van Zadelhoff is out...

25.03.11 @ 13:02:46 von Martin

It was not Steven's tournament. After a couple of missed flush and straight draws he went all in with his remaining chips holding KQ on a King-High board. His opponent was holding a flush draw and completed his hand on the river. Steven will hopefully be more lucky at The Everest Poker ONE in Monte Carlo starting on April 21st.

Big pots for Leo and Valentin

25.03.11 @ 11:13:17 von Martin

Our French players are running hot: Leo could win a pot of more than 15k holding A3s on a board with 25A-4-6. The action started on the turn with three players involved. The button raised, Leo holding the straight and the nut flush draw re-raised and another guy called. The initial raiser foldet and Leo hit his flush on the river. Another pot-size value bet got payed off from a set of 4's.

Valentin on the other hand showed a lot of aggressiveness and found a nice spot when he had AK in the big blind and 4 players in the pot after the guy UTG open-raised. His 3-bet looked like a squeeze so the initial raiser made a 4-bet. Valentin put even more pressure on his opponent and made a big 5-bet which made his opponent fold. Well done guys!
