On the Spanish Poker Tour we give to the final table a special touch, in this video you can see how mutch fun it is to participate on the SPT
Silently the “requim” of Andrew Lloyd Webber is playing in the back of my head. The choir of young boys highlights the passing of this beautiful event and fills my heart with sadness. I wonder if anyone can hear what I hear, feel what I feel. One thing is sure. Maybe they don’t feel the sadness of the event ending because they already scheduled attending a next one soon, but each and every player that attended this event was over the moon about the organization, the fantastic structure and great atmosphere.
At the end Jorge Gonzalez had to cave under the pressure of Miguel Angel Rodriguez.
It was an emotional finale. The way a finale should always be. Exciting to watch, ups and downs, some great strategy and a deserving winner.

Miguel Angel Rodriguez

Jorge Gonzalez
Congratulations Miguel Angel. You are taking 38000 euro home with you.

Unfortunately Claus Wendt, our Everest Poker qualifier had to leave the main event in 5th place.
He had K 10 and went all in pre-flop. His opponent called with pocket 3 (God knows why.) The flop delivered a second 3 and left Claus hanging for better. What a way to go Claus, what a way…

Claus confided that he was super happy with reaching 5th place since it was his first big live tournament. I’ll go “All-in” betting we’ll see Claus again.
...Maybe on one of the next SPT stops?
That went quickly…4 hours after the day 2 of the side event started we have a winner…and his name is Alexander zur Linden from Germany.

Congratulations Alexander, great stuff. Keep on playing like this and you’ll go far.
He was followed by:
2. Sergio Valero
3. Javier Salvador
4. Leo Truche

Last year Everest Poker’s European Event Coordinators spent 6 months observing the characteristics of each Nationality during poker tournaments, to see if National characteristics are visible in the way countries play the game.
This year the team from 10 different countries have spent the recent 6 months finding out if a players state of mind affects their play with some very convincing results.

Ed Pownall, PRE European Manager, states: “When we have players who win a seat at a big event you can always tell you who is playing in their first big event and those who has been to one before. Why? Simply that first timers often fly in on the morning they are playing to avoid paying for an extra night in a hotel – even though costs are put in their account. At EPT London two of our qualifiers started the tournament this way and from the start mentioned being tired, they were out within an hour.
“Similarly personal life can also be a barometer of how a player gets on in tournaments. One of our team players ended last year with three final tables in three months. He then split up with his girlfriend and early exits were as regular as final tables were just months beforehand!”
Mariken Hogenhout, Everest Poker Dutch Event Coordinator, also observed players completely change their strategy when faced with a big name or the TV table: “I have seen many players playing well, looking relaxed but when faced with the TV table they suddenly play far too tight. This is because they are aware every hand is being analysed and they do not want to be considered fish!”
She adds: “Another factor that can upset a player’s rhythm is being on a table that gets ‘broken up’ – clever players will realize they are on an outside table and be aware this is probably one that will be broken up quickly and often waste little time assessing their opponents. Really clever players ask the tourney director which tables are to be broken up early!”
As we saw from the Nationalities survey emotions have a big part to play in poker and the success of Scandinavian players in tournament play is undeniable which also reflects a traditionally calm temperament.
Team Everest player and multiple tournament winner, Maria Maceiras, (list highlights), explains: “There is no doubt that I play better when I am rested and when I am happy in myself. When you see a player arrive to the table tired or obviously nervous you make sure you go on the attack from the start as you do not want to let them settle.”
Rocio van Nierop, PRE European Manager, also maintains that the choice of starting day for a tournament is important too: “Many first time players opt for Day1A with the more experienced players opting for the later start in order to get acclimatised and relaxed. However, as a result I know a number of good tournament players that target Day 1A because it is an easier ride. Its your call!”

Blinds 200/400
Ante 50
Average 19042
Blindmaster has 16000 chips
Sunni 12000 chips
Biggel has 17025. The deciding moment of this round was a split pot where both players went all in with A7. Both players ended up with a straight.
Koendb 14000 chips. He went up against pocketjoe with pocket J, pocketjoe has AK. The turn delivered a A and a J on the river giving Koendb a 3 of a kind of J and pocketjoe AA.
Pocketjoe has 6000 chips because of the hand against Koendb.
Sofia19 is at 10000 chips. He lost a huge pot in this round.
I’m sure looking at these pictures you will feel sad that you where not here, but do not despair Everest poker offers loads of qualifier possibilities that enable you to be present at great events just like these.

Blinds 150/300
Average 13560
Blindmaster has 9000 chips.
Sunni 11000 chips.
Biggel has 16500. He got this far by going all in against the short stack. His AJ won against KJ.
Koendb 11000 chips.
Sofia19 is at 19000 chips because he got some great hands. He assured us he’s on a roll. Good luck to our Swedish friend and his ‘roll of luck’.
As you probably have read a few blog pieces ago, the tournament here in Dortmund not only opens with, but is also mixed with entertainment moments.
We, the non-deaf bloggers and journalists, really applauded at the end of following act.
The points of the jury are:
Nobody can tell the story better than the player himself. We asked him to give us the inside scoop on the terrible turn of events. He put down the key hands from his notes to explain his early bust:
First level: blinds 25-50
Tight Italian guy makes it 150 to go in middle position I call 2 of the button with 56s : flop comes T7s4s, he bets 250 into 375 and I raise to 850 total. He calls.
Turn is an offsuit 5 he checks and I bet 1400 into 2100ish, he raises to 5k total, committing himself and I fold against a possible set even though I have tons of outs.
Down to 7k.
A few hands later, I get a free flop from the big blind with Q5 off against four limpers, flop comes 5d5h3s, small blind checks, I check, utg limper bets 100 into the 300 pot , overlimper late position calls, everyone folds to me and I make it 350 to go, utg calls, the other guy folds.
I put him on a small pocket pair or 45s, 56s
Turn is Ts I bet 650, utg calls.
River is 9s I bet 1400, utg raises to 3k total and I fishcall. He had me beat all the way with k5s and backdoored a flush.
Second level, blinds 50-100
I’m down to 3k.
I raise k9 in late position and find a good flop to give up on against three callers : J6s4s.
Third level, blinds 75-150
I’m shortstacked to 8 big blinds after folding a lot and I shove 83s on the button only to be called by both blinds. Great flop for me, AKQ rainbow, and I’m out at the beginning of level three .
2Kewl4school
At the last moment Everest Poker and all our fellow bloggers and poker sites got word that the Hohensyburg-casino in Dortmund would not allow any website promotions or logos on the casino floor.

What to do? Well…since our players are known as fierce soldiers on the poker battle field we at Everest Poker decided to take their lead and not roll over and die.
We took it at heart to defend our colours.
I’m sure we can count on our Everest Poker qualifiers that are present to be victorious in this battle.
This is the result of introducing branded t-shirt ban - pettiness will be thwarted:

Congratulations to the March 10th winners!

The Netherlands are represented by Biggel, Koendb, Mofox_IP and Pocketjoe.

EPT Dortmund by PokerStars
Two Everest players remain: Our very own Team Everest Poker player Krul and his Dutch colleague MrMister82.
Krul

MrMister82

MrMister82 ended Day 1A with 15,000 chips. The last level of the tournament he was moved from table to table which, according to him, explains the low chip count because he had no time to “read” his opponents.
Krul finished with a fantastic 42,300. He was able to double up with his second last hand. Well done kiddo.
The Italian Cristiano 'Lalanco' Blanco was the last to leave the tournament on Day 1A. Lalanco raised with 55 in his hands. A call and a fold later the flop showed 678. Lalanco used his pair and straight draw to go all in. A devious plan that would have worked if the opponent did not have pocket AA. Unfortunately the turn and river brought no relief.
The entire tournament Krul struggled to hold on. This shows poker can also have a happy ending for the persistent few even if the story was written in blood, sweat and tears.
Well done guys. Enjoy your well deserved day off tomorrow to start fresh again for Day 2 on Wednesday. Everybody at Everest Poker is cheering for you. The pompoms are ordered, the parade float parked round the corner.
Level 6
The average is 16451
Blinds 150-300
Vanvan40 started the round with 14000 chips, which was at that time above the average. Unfortunately the lady of good fortune turned her back on the jolly Frenchman. With his pair of K in his hand he road down the battlefield, facing his demons. The flop laid down J, 9 and 4. Bravely his opponent raised to 2500 chips. Not shaken by this bold move Vanvan40 drew all his weapons and went all-in, head first before he got knocked down by a 2 and 3 adding to the straight of his opponent.
Equally brave, Nheo also found his grave on the battlefield of the brave. With 2Q in his hand he awaited the flop which was QJJ. Oh yeah he though too soon. His opponent had AJ in his hand. Nheo went all in. The turn left the situation status quo, but the river brought the final blow in the form of a 4th J. And there he went…our very own Everest poker knight…beaten by the poker monster.
Not long afterwards the Dutch player Groengras followed both players when he went all in with his KQ to face pocket AA.
MrMister82 is still doing reasonably ok with 13110 chips, even though he came from 19000 before.
Krul has 12000 chips.
Lalancol has 13000 chips.
Although the remaining Everest poker players are below the average the remaining play quality is super high.
Go guys, defend our honor and battle hard.
Unfortunatly, the Italian player Babbolone didn’t make trough day 1.
Being big blind, he called a pre-flop bet of 850 with pocket 8 in his hand. The flop revealed Q, 6, 5 and both players checked. Babbolone got an 8 on the turn and bet 1500, but found himself called by his opponent. The rivercard was a 7, Babbolone checked. His opponent tough bet 3000 and Babbolone called. When they showed their cards, Babbolone found out that his opponent got 9 – 5, making a straight and beating the three of kind 8’s of Babbolone.
On the next hand, Babbolone went all-in with 8 – 9 and got called by A – 10. The flop showed another Ace and Babbolone was smacked out of the tournament.
He’s the first Everest-player who has to leave the tournament in Dortmund but he told us he will be back in San Remo and maybe even in Sevilla for the SPT.

Even if Babbolone is below average with his 9000 chips he told us everything is under control. He is feeling mighty confident and boldly stated “No problem, guys”. We hope he’s right and will be able to raise the number of chips in his hand.

Babbolone’s relaxed manner is a big contrast with MrMister82’s heightened concentration. At the beginning of level 3 he started out with 11000 chips but was able to remain focused and raise his chips to 14000. This brings him good above average. Well done, and keep the focus going.

Pictures speak more than a thousand words.
Look at how Vanvan40 plays like the old Japanese Zen masters. This sheer focus and determination raised his chip stack from 12000 in the beginning of level 3 to 14150 chips now.

Although Krul is slowly diminishing his chips from 9500 chips at the beginning of the round to 8800 now he’s being a fantastic sport about it. He keeps on enjoying himself and continuous battling to end up on top. We hope his infectious enthusiasm will bring him the glory he deserves.

Blinds are 50/100
Sponsored players, Babbolone is up a bit with 10400 chips and Lalancol is still in the game with 6700 chips
Nheo is doing good 11500 chips
Groengras is still at level 10000 chips and, in his own words, is playing it calmly
MrMister82 has 9300 chips
Vanvan40 has 7775 chips
And our very own Krul is up with 11000 chips
We wish them all the best of luck.
We are at the start of EPT Dortmund day 1A. After a nice welcome dinner last evening, 7 of the 16 Everest Poker qualifiers playing today sat down at table where with 10,000 starting chips.
The tournament started a bit later than foreseen due to long registrations. At 15:25 the tournament officially started with blinds at 25/50.
