The bad luck continues - Kim Wooka is out on Day 1A

05/11/08 @ 08:07:36 pm by Katie

On a day when her pocket J's kept running into bigger pairs and time ticking down on Day 1, Kim knew that it was time to set a trap for her opponents and try to double up. But, as all good poker players know, sometimes your opponent escapes from your trap at the last minute and the play works against you.

With 12K left in her stack, and with blinds at 300/600, Kim called a raise of 1800 with pocket 6's. She and her opponent saw the flop heads-up and it was a dream - A 10 6! Knowing full well that her opponent's range of hands most likely included an Ace, Kim set the trap.

First to act she checked, knowing that her opponent had hit his ace and will bet, and then most likely will pay her off on the re-raise. When she went all-in over the top of his bet, her opponent thought about it and then made the call with AJ of clubs. With only one club on the flop her opponent was drawing thin (to runner runner clubs, runner runner A A, or runner runner J J.) When another club hit the turn, things got scary. When yet another club hit the river Kim was out, losing to her opponent's Ace-high flush.

Sometimes you can make all the right moves and still come up empty. Today was just one of those days for Kim.
