We listened to our player feedback, and created an even better tournament for 2008. The guarantee will still be $1,000,000, but with an improved qualification structure we’ll give a better chance for more players to qualify.
What’s unchanged from last year is the fabulous finale: the last 10 players – plus 1 guest each – will be flown to play the final table live. A free vacation weekend plus a share of $1,000,000 – what could be better?
How to qualify:

The satellites will start on Jan 1st, the first round 3 will be play on Jan 8th.
Good luck to all!!

Parisian Arnaud Mattern, 28, has won the European Poker Tour Prague event for a first prize of €708,400. Mattern, who is also a world-class backgammon player and the current French champion, triumphed against Italian Gino “El Diablo” Alacqua.
In the final hand, Mattern called Alacqua’s all-in raise. He had AK and paired the King on the turn, beating the Italian’s Q10.
Mattern is the third Frenchman to win an EPT – Jan Boubli won Season 2 Barcelona and Pascal Perrault won Season 1 Vienna. Mattern said: “This is the best result I’ve ever had. I did win the French Backgammon Championship but that was only €5,000! It was a very tough final table and, during the heads-up, Gino picked up a lot of good cards but I just picked my spot and my good hands stood up.”
Today was Mattern’s first EPT cash and more than ten times his previous best win – the Gutshot Poker Masters in 2006 for $51,000. As well as today’s first prize, Mattern also wins a €10,000 seat to the EPT Grand Final, which takes place in Monte Carlo in April 2008.
Runner-up Alacqua, who is single and lives in Milan, says he came to Prague hoping to find love. Instead he picked up €407,300 for second place. The 46-year-old antiques dealer only took up poker 18 months ago but won the Campione d’Italia €1k Main Event this summer and was runner-up in the 2006 Italian Championship.
High-stakes online player Kristian Kjondal, 21, from Oslo, Norway, came 3rd – adding €235,300 to the €471,000 he won last April for coming 4th in the EPT Season 3 Monte Carlo Grand Final. PokerStars player Johannes Strassman was 9th, winning €39,200.
Here’s the final table
The 9 players will play tomorrow (December 14) at 3pm.
Mikael Norinder Sweden 1,036,000
Arnaud Mattern France 980,000
Dagomir Palovic Slovakia 759,000
Kristian Kjondal Norway 740,000
Gino Alacqua Italy 660,000
Juha Lauttamus Finland 567,000
Markus Golser Austria 352,000
Johannes Strassmann Germany 245,000
Nedzib Suman Sweden 216,000
Everest Poker pro, Cristiano Blanco, made the money for the second time this year in an EPT event. Cristiano managed second in Dortmund earlier in the year and at EPT Prague he was again in the money but not nearly as high this time round!
He busted out in 38th place with 8,800 euros to his name after raising with a suited AK and his opponent going all in with AT. Cristiano called but, sadly, for our man, the T came on the flop.
Due to several players telling us that the date of the live Casting Call was not convenient for them - as it falls on Easter weekend - we have decided to change the date of the Casting Call to 3/28 to 03/30. (Note that the casting will start on Friday morning). Further details on the weekend will be available soon
Everest Poker pro, Cristiano Blanco, was chip leader for a while in Day 1b yesterday and is still in a handy position going into the start of day two.
Cristiano is sitting on 39,700 chips - above the day two starting average of 28,000.
Also still in is the Everest Poker Avalanche winner from Germany Frank Stumpf (pictured) with 24,800.
The last EPT (sponsored by Pokerstars) of the year is played for the first time in Czech Republic. Prague hosts the event between the 10-14 of December. A total of 241 entreies the first day and the tournament was stopped at 21.00 with 87 remaining players.
Everest Poker had 6 players during Day 1A. The Spanish qualifiers Julio Pollan and Julio Diaz had a tough day and were busted at 17.00 and 18.00 respectively. The Norwegian qualifier and well known football player Kevin Larsen had an equally bad day and also busted around 17.00.
However the Dutch qualifier Lex Meijer had a fairly good day and made it through the 6th level but got busted shortly after 19.00
The Spanish Team is hear and they are doing really well Maria Maceiras has 35.600 and Guillermo Garcia has 27.00 chips when the average is 27.700.
Day 1B continues tomorrow and Day 2 will start on Wednesday.
Spanish qualifier Julio Pollan
Dutch qualifier Lex Meijler

Norweigian qualifier Kevin Larsen
Spanish Team Member Maria Maceiras
As you know by now, the top five players who earn the most Summit Points in each of November, December, January and February will qualify for the Casting Call.
