WPT 5-Diamond Day 2

12/18/06 @ 02:15:34 am by Ken

The official Day 2 of the Bellagio WPT event began on Saturday, December 16th.

The day started with 359 players. After one level of play, Tarak saw his chip count go down to about 22k. As he began the next level, his goal was to be patient, wait on a hand, and try to double up. A fantastic opportunity presented itself early in the level when Tarak was dealt pocket Aces but, unfortunately, nobody called his pre-flop raise and Tarak was resigned to just pick up the blinds and antes for the hand.

With no big hands and few opportunities to increase his chips, Tarak's stack was slowly dwindling. About 20 minutes before the end of Day 2 play, the inevitable happened. With a low stack, Tarak was forced to commit the rest of his chips on a flopped draw of 11 outs. Unfortunately none of the outs hit and Tarak was eliminated in 140th place, only 40 spots away from the money.

Out of 583 players, Tarak's 140th place is something to be proud of. Though he did not cash, a great experience was had and he outlasted many of today's hottest poker professionals. Congratulations, Tarak. I'm sure we'll be seeing you on the tournament circuit again in the near future!

WPT Five-Diamond, Day 1B

12/15/06 @ 10:27:34 pm by Ken

At noon today, the WPT started Day 1B of the Five-Diamond event at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas. Just like the day before, hundreds of pros and amateurs alike took their seats for the first time in the event, all with intentions to be the next WPT Champion.

Our own Tarak Darkhaloui (Everest screen name: FBI), was seated at table #64, seat #1. All players started with 30,000 in chips with blinds of 50-100. With 90-minute levels, players had plenty of time to play and be patient.

As of this writing, there is one level left on the day. Tarak has played steady and strong. The lowest his stack got to was around 18,000 but he doubled up when his pocket Queens held up against his opponent's flopped pair of Jacks. This brought Tarak up to 36,000. The highest he got his stack up to today was around 40,000 but after a couple of lost hands, Tarak's stack is now at 33,500 with one level left to go.

Check back for an update on Tarak (FBI) and the rest of the WPT event!

WITH ANTICIPATION, TARAK WAITS FOR THE TOURNAMENT TO BEGIN.

THE TABLE IS SET FOR DAY 1B.

ENTRENCHED IN HIS GAME, TARAK CONTEMPLATES HIS NEXT MOVE.

SOME OF THE MANY NOTABLE PROS ALSO PLAYING IN DAY 1B INCLUDE:

WPT CHAMPION AND MUTLI-WSOP BRACELET HOLDER, ALLEN CUNNINGHAM

WPT AND WSOP LADIES CHAMPION, JENNIFER TILLY

WPT CHAMPION, GUS HANSEN

MIKE MATUSOW AND DANIEL NEGREANU SHARE A LAUGH
