Day 1B at the WSOP

07/31/06 @ 05:29:53 pm by Ken

Spanish player Inaki was the last of the Everest Poker players to start the WSOP, playing on Day 1B. He actually had quite the journey from Spain, as his (delayed/cancelled) flights took him from Madrid to Dallas, to an overnight stay in Chicago, and finally in Las Vegas late Friday night. After a bit of begging and pleading, Everest Poker was able to change his starting date to Day 1B (he had originall been scheduled to start Day 1A). Here is Inaki

Despite all the travels, Inaki had a great first day. He had 40,000 chips at the end of the day, well above average. After some sleep, he's looking forward to Tuesday's day 2. Buena Suerte!

Day 1 of the World Series of Poker!

07/29/06 @ 09:08:44 pm by Ken

Day 1 of the World Series of Poker has come and gone, and to say this is a gigantic poker event would be an understatement. Over 8,500 players have already registered, and some say the number of entrants may reach 10,000 by Monday. And Everest Poker is right in the thick of the action, with 6 players represented. As the sign said yesterday morning, let the WSOP begin!

The crowds of players, media, and spectators is immense. Here is a glimpse of what it is like:

5 Everest Poker players started on day 1, with Spanish player Inaki De Luque Pinana starting on Saturday. Before Day 1 started, French players Julien Ripoche and Gerard Paoli took the time to confer with expert French player Maurice Atlani:

Then, it was ready to shuffle up and deal. Here is French player Ahmed in action

Julien

Vincent

Robert

The quality of play, meanwhile, was world class. Every top player in the world is here, and it takes a tremendous amount of skill and some luck to advance. Of the 5 Everest Poker players, only Vincent has survived on to day 2, with a stack of about 11,000 chips. Congrats to Vincent! Julien also made a good run late into Day 1, building up his 10,000 chip initial stack into around 20,000 at various points in the day. But as night turned into morning, Julien ran into bad luck, and joined 3 Everest Poker teammates on the rail.

Good luck to Spanish player Inaki in Day 2. Be sure to check back for updates.
